Formation of the company Elkan and Hormann.

1870
Aaron Elkan obtained a licence to build a new paper mill.

1888, 1897 and 1908
Expansion of the factory buildings.

With the beginning of the "Third Reich"
the Jewish family Elkan was dispossed. The mill operated under the ownership of "Rohpappenfabrik Worms AG"

1941 bis 1952
No production due to the second world war.

1952
Resumption of production with 150 employees. Production of dry felt board grades.

1958
Europa Carton bought the papermill Viersen

1960 to 1965
Upgrading of production and change from dry felt board to corrugated paper.

1970 to 1980
Several upgrades enabled the production grow from 35.000 t/y to 50.000t/y.

1997
Viersen Papier became part of Stone Europa Carton.

1998
Building of a second boiler house and start up of a new steam boiler.

1999
Installation of a new headbox with modernisation of the wet- and press-section, the vacuum-system and the flow stock system.

2000
Optimization of the internal logistic.

2001
Erection of a new, modern ware house.

2002
Extension of the machine hall with installation of a new rewinder, a pope reel and quality control system.

2003
Viersen Papier became part of Smurfit Europa Carton

2003
Modification of waste water and reject handling.

2005
With the merger between Jefferson Smurfit and Kappa Packaging Viersen Papier became part of Smurfit Kappa GmbH.
